The iRobot Roomba 980 robot cleaner with mop Vacuum Cleaner

The majority of robotic vacuums require regular maintenance. This includes emptying the bin (and sometimes, rinsing it) and cleaning the cameras and sensors. Also, they need to be connected to the power source. Many come with smartphone apps for scheduling, setting up settings, and more.

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent in a line of top-of the-line robot vacuum cleaner with mop vacuums, is a must for every modern home. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter that will assist those who suffer from allergies. Additionally, it also has a powerful battery that can clean up to two hours and it will automatically return to its dock when it is full.

Smart mapping is a different feature that allows it to identify areas in your home that require attention and creates an easy path to get around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a great job of maneuvering around toys that have been left scattered on the floor, robot Cleaner with mop or furniture legs that are sticking out from under things. It also has a camera that snaps the Roomba back to its original position when it starts to drift away from its original location.

iRobot has also added a new set of rollers underneath the Roomba's bottom, which don't have bristles and therefore tend to resist tangles more than previous models. They're also taller than older rollers and are able to fit under beds and couches that are low, and they're designed to help this model navigate more easily on varying flooring types.

What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models of this class however, is its incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature that uses cameras to detect particles of dirt embedded. This is a significant improvement over the previous model that relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around the room and scrub the entire area three times at various angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. It scored extremely well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a good job picking up pet hair however it struggled with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots in our list despite the slight limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It has a lot of features you'd expect from a top model, but it doesn't have all the fancy apps and smart home integration you'd get from other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and start running right away. After removing the yellow bin insert and pull tab from its undercarriage it is simply connected to the wall socket or one of its Home Base docking stations, hit the "Clean button" and let it work. It will return to its dock when the battery runs out or is full of debris, and it also has indicators on the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it requires recharging, or its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
